Green Collar Careers - SRCC
Compliance
SRCC stands for Solar Rating and Certification Corporation. In
1980 the
Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC) was incorporated
as a non-profit organization whose primary purpose is the development
and implementation of certification programs and national rating
standards for solar energy equipment. They primarily deal with
solar heating systems and are an ad-hoc agency that is recognized by
most state governments, utilities, even the IRS for tax credits.
If you want to take advantage of the federal tax credits, the primary
components of the system have to be SRCC classified and approved.
SRCC provides two types of certifications:
OG-100 - "Operating Guidelines for Certifying Solar
Collectors," and its companion document, SRCC Standard 100, "Test
Methods and Minimum Standards for Certifying Solar Collectors."
This certification is applied to the individual solar collectors such
as Flat Plate or Evacuated Tube products and the certification is
granted to the manufacturer. OG-300 - This
certification is directed to the supplier of the solar water heating
system. The good news is that much of the supply industry has
packaged kits based on OG-300 compliance and have already done the
leg work to acquire these certifications. The bad news is all
the budget priced solar collectors from overseas probably isn't
OG-100 or OG-300 compliant. OG-300 will assure that the kit and
documentation for installation has been developed. When you
select a vendor be sure they will provide the OG-300 Compliance
Certificate for the system they are to deliver. The
STS
Solar Manual provides a thorough review of the systems and the
specific requirements they need to conform to.
